When a believer sins, he or she breaks fellowship with the Father. If the sin committed is not confessed and forgiveness sought, the believer will lose his sense of righteousness and begin to walk in defeat and condemnation. This is when the present ministry of the Lord Jesus begins to work in the life of such a believer. John tells us in 1 John 2:1, “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” Scripture also tells us that, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9) and that we have a High Priest, the Lord Jesus, seated at the right hand of the Father ever interceding on our behalf that He may save us to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25).
This teaching on the “Present Ministry of the Lord Jesus” is important so that the believer may understand his rights and privileges in God’s kingdom and become secure in his salvation walk with the Lord.
